[G4] mounting partitions across separate drives

In my 11 years with OS X, my first OS btw, I have never heard of an fstab file. 
That's not to say that they don't exist, but I've never heard of them. And I have 
done a little mucking around at the root level here and there.

What I do know is that sym links are better than alias's.
