[G4] white lettering

lately I have been getting a daily white lettering (negative) on a black 
screen telling me to restart....seems to be a harbinger of more nasties 
to come.  Can anyone tell me what to check for to stop this madness 
which of course comes at different times and within different programs.

dual 867 maxed out.
