Here's how we did it in the old days (I'm not so sure about the newer Macs.)
Question to anyone:  Does this still work?

Startup while holding down Command, Option, 'O' and 'F'

Then type

reset-nvram
reset-all

To reset parameter ram:

Startup with
Command, Option, 'P' and 'R'
