All onboard IDE interfaces will recognise devices up to 500 GB
capacity (which is as high as they made IDE drives anyway). There are
four 3.5" bays, two at the rear which sit next to the CPU, to at the
lower front.
If you want serious storage for your room-heater, look at getting an
SiiG, ACARD or Sonnet SATA controller card for one of the PCI slots.
You can then put up to 2 TB in each bay, and they're all bootable,
too.
