Having said that, it rarely sees any traffic anymore. Not much call for G5 specific questions anymore. Speaking of which... My primary system is still my G5 2x2, and will continue to be for at least a couple more years as long as nothing goes wrong. Message-ID: <000c01c783b4$7389a160$0200000a@BigPond> I have an Apple Imac G5, not the apple of my eye but a "lemon". It was purchased 18 months ago and we took out a warranty of 2 more years. In that time, within 18 days of owning it the machine was returned to Apple Care for a new logic board. Yes 18 days of purchase, they tried 3 new Logic boards and they were all duff ones, we got it back 2 weeks later, working okay then. Until a month ago when all locked up, returned once more for a new hard drive, none in Australia or Singapore 10 day wait, ugh! After receiving it back one evening it lasted 20 minutes, did a complete uninstall following Apple's directions and still no good. Collected again this last Monday and yesterday [Friday] we were informed another new hard drive was ordered and arrived yesterday to be installed on Monday. Wish that I had never seen the thing, be very careful what you wish for. So counting the original set up - that's, 4 logic boards and 3 hard drives in 18 months and all I do is research genealogy and surf a small amount of the web. Disappointed and getting angry although Apple have said that if it isn't fixed within 30 days they will replace the machine. Fed up in Adelaide! If they replace your iMac, I would consider asking for an Intel Core Duo or Core 2 Duo iMac. The G5 is a dead-end on the evolutionary trail. The Intels are on the future path. My wife has a G5 iMac, and I have an Intel Core Duo, purchased a year later than hers. Both are refurbs, and both have given us no problems. --Steve At 10:59 AM +0930 4/21/07, wrote: >Disappointed and getting angry although Apple have said that if it isn't >fixed within 30 days they will replace the machine. [iMac G5] Message-ID: <001201c78786$b9f8b480$0200000a@BigPond> Thanks to all who responded to my previous email of woe!. Here we are still without my iMac G5 after nineteen days at the AppleCare service Department in Adelaide. We are told it will be returned tomorrow evening. I have lost all confidence in my handsome but troublesome computer. 4 logic boards, 3 hard drives, 36 days away in service, 18 months old. first problem 18 days into ownership. means 36 days of paying for broadband with no computer. Still they treat us with disdain and offer a new Apple Mac if the hardware doesn't last during the remainder of the warranty in the future. I was offered a discount voucher off my next? Apple purchase, that certainly didn't interest me. I am totally disillusioned and consider that if we were a Company and not a senior couple [albeit computer literate] we would have been extended fairer service. The telephone contact wanted me to say that we were now satisfied, how can I when the machine is still in their workshop, just to enable him to sign off his paper work. Guess talking about it doesn't solve the problem. However I can only hope and trust that on its eventual return it is working, because I won't be spending any more money on it if they claim next time its a software issue. Sorry if that sounds pessimistic, but I'm so disappointed in what was to be the Apple of my eye.. regards, Barbara From ftf at mac.com Thu Apr 26 08:01:40 2007 From: ftf at mac.com (Fabian Fang) Date: Thu Apr 26 08:01:56 2007 Subject: [G5] Re: My problems continued In-Reply-To: <001201c78786$b9f8b480$0200000a@BigPond> References: <001201c78786$b9f8b480$0200000a@BigPond> Message-ID: On Apr 25, 2007, at 3:11 PM, bet100@bigpond.com wrote: > Here we are still without my iMac G5 after nineteen days at the > AppleCare > service Department in Adelaide. > > We are told it will be returned tomorrow evening. > > I have lost all confidence in my handsome but troublesome computer. > > 4 logic boards, > 3 hard drives, > 36 days away in service, > 18 months old. > first problem 18 days into ownership. > means 36 days of paying for broadband with no computer.
