Hi Jane and others,

The Coolpix 990's swivel action was great for backward shots on a bicycle,
and it has great macro lens. But Sony seems to do much better indoors.
Outdoors all seem comparable. The 990 was surpassed considerably by the 995.
The latter has a much better grip, superior flash, and you can use the Nikon
rechargeable battery.

The 990 consumes a pile of batteries when you use the lcd monitor or the
flash. You end up using the view finder and apologising to the environment,
but the solution arrived with the 995's longer lasting rechargeable.

I use 2x256MB cards and 2 rechargeable batteries and I have been happily
clicking away even at night. I can take 500 x 1MB shots at one session
without a worry now.

The 995 will be selling for much lower prices these days, having been
surpassed by the Nikon Coolpix 5700.

Cheerio!
