system memory?

Hi,

I was just trying to change a keystroke to toggle
between tools in Illustrator and discovered that I
can't use my system help center.

When in the finder with no other applications open, if
I go to the Help Center via the Help menu, and type in
a word for a search, I get the message  

"There is not enough memory to complete this
operation. Quit other open apps and try again."

I checked the memory allotment for the Help Center
application, it has 3000, well above the reqired.I
also ran Norton Disk Doc for the heck of it. No
change. 

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
