iMovie 3 Issues...

I am sure Erica's new iMovie 3 book just rocks and will maintain her
already stellar reputation.

My problem is with iMovie 3 or maybe it's the reverse? I find it slow
compared to iMovie 2.1.2. While editing in choosing a portion of the
clip to edit. There is a distinctive time lag of a beat or two that
just seems to interrupt the flow of work. It doesn't have the delay
in 2.1.2. There is this distinct sluggishness. I am running the
latest of everything. Except hardware. <grin> However, it should be
plenty fast enough. I'm using a Ti 667 DVI with 768MB RAM, L2 and L3
caches and 32MB or VRAM, and a pair of external 7200rpm 120 GB
drives. OS 10.2.6, Quicktime Pro 6.3, iMovie 3.0.3 ??? I was hoping
the most recent upgrade would have fixed this. I know it addressed a
number of issues but...

I also had it crash and lose all of the clips I had imported into the
shelf. Fortunately, the project, at that point, wasn't lost so it
wasn't a total bust. I exported what I had done to DV stream and
imported into 2.1.2 and finished the project. That most recent iMovie
3 debacle had me upgrade to FCP Express.

No delays there while editing, but then again it is non-destructive
and setting in/out points etc. Obviously, that is quicker. However,
you would think the software overhead is steeper than in iMovie 3.

I dunno.
