I believe that the reason is to sell iDVD at the market price which 
seems reasonable since they are not making much of a return on the 
other iApps.  (isn't iDVD compatible with external burners as well but 
they want to sell new computers so they disable this) I don't have a 
problem paying for software that is genuinely an improvement, and it 
looks as if the iApps are, I do have problem paying Apple to fix flaws 
in OS 10.1 with a full price Jag upgrade.  They made me mad and I'll 
stay that way.  Have actually steered several people away from Apple.
