I don't know about getting the video into iMovie or anything else but you will need to be concerned about the compression artifacts as mentioned in Marks response. If you have ever taken a JPG image edited it and then saved it as a JPG again you will know what I mean. The compression algorithms work OK the first time but after repeated compression you will see more artifacts.
