Ah - then your file is too big. You'd think that iMovie would break up
the file in the same way it breaks up data coming from the camera, but
it doesn't. It waits for a long time, then croaks in various ways.
First, you need to quit iMovie and look in the media file - there's
probably a file called "original-file 01" which is the first 2GB of
your movie. You can look at it in QT and see where it ends - probably
at 9:56:27
You can open your original movie, cut the first 9:50 or so off, then do
"save as . . ." for the second part, then drop that 2nd part on iMovie.
If the movie is longer than 18 minutes, you might have to break it
into 3 parts. I usually split them at 8 or 9 minutes and leave a little
overlap that I cut out in iMovie to make sure the seam is perfect.
When you do the "save as . . ." you can let it create a dependent file
and it won't take up much space.
