just restart from your original system CD that came with the iMac and run Disk First Aid If that doesn't help, buy a copy of Norton Utilities or Tech Tools or Drive 10 or whatever and use that to correct your problems. You didn't give us any specs on your iMac and OS. Please do so. It sounds like OS 9. If so do a clean install of your system if all else fails. good luck Juan
