[MacDV] ForMac studio ???? Work????

My thought on this is that iMovie will not actually control your VCR as 
it does a DV camera, so did you press the record button on the VCR 
before starting the export?

P.S. I have often looked for complex answers to problems when the 
simple ones would have done the trick.
