Have you been using the extened play to get more time out of your 
tapes or the standard play speed. I heard that if you use the 
extended play, the tape runs slower to acheive the higher capacity, 
but reliability goes down and the ability to play the tapes into any 
mini-dv mechanism is reduced. Symptoms are similar to those you 
described.
