iBoook G3/500 HELL - PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello,

I received my iBook G3/500 yesterdays and it powered up for a few brief 
times and then all of the sudden powered down. The AC adapter appears 
damaged now. It will not securely fit in and I am assuming the batterly is 
drained. Any idea of what mightbe the problem? Can the iBook run on just the 
adapter? How do you charge the battery? I am so sorry but I am new to this.
