Come on, MacOS isn't MS Windows.  MacOS rarely generates the kind of 
problems that requires reinstallation of anything.  That message just 
means it couldn't swap old and new file content.  Reinstalling won't 
help with that.

Are you using UFS?    What is the output of these two commands on your 
system?

         df -t  ufs

         df -t  hfs
