I Peter would invite YOU to find a computer in a less "clinical:" 
setting than yours probably is
and I have described all the real world stuff you can do with it..
Find one that has been in constant use for like two years. Then try to 
capture and edit and play back video. Good Luck.
The Bench mark is when your Final cut Pro Quits in the middle of a long 
playback with a cryptic message about your disc being slow.
