one firewire port, two devices

I'm in a real pickle.

I want to capture video using a G4 iBook, to an external firewire 
drive. Problem is there is only one firewire port on the iBook. Can I 
import the video via the external drive's firewire port without 
problems? Or would a firewire hub be a better option?

Again, I am in a real pickle.
