Claire,
You want to use the iLink (=FireWire) cable to connect to your
Powerbook. That way, the signal stays digital all the way and there's
no loss of quality.
If you use S video, the camera needs to convert the signal to an
analogue format first with some loss of quality resulting.
Also, my PowerBook will not accept S video INPUT signals - it only has
S video OUTPUT. Yours may well be the same, so you may not be able to
connect via S video without extra hardware.
You should also be able to connect the ProScan Hi-8 camcorder through
the Sony miniDV camcorder to capture your old footage.
