I believe you mean Digital8. And not all of them can play Hi8 or regular 8mm
tapes recorded on an analog camcorder. It seems that the current low-end
Sony models don't, although my DCR TRV110 (about 4 years old) does. Check
the SonyStyle site for specs/capabilities.

True. I even noticed on a commercial aircraft once that they used a Hi8 deck
and Hi8 tapes for the inflight movies.
