Cleaning Noise from Digital Tape

I transfered a VHS tape made circa 1982 to a digital 8 tape in order to do
some editing. Since the tape was made so long ago there is some "noise" or
lines that pop up throughout the video. I have iMovie 2.0 and Cleaner 5.1
installed on my Powerbook (Wallstreet, 233 Mhz) running OS 9.2. Is there a
way to clean up this video with the equipment I already have?
