Camera Stabilization through Software

Regarding software stabilization potential, keep in mind that the 
DVCAM/DV video frame includes substantially more pixels than that which 
will actually show on regular TV. In the broadcast community, they 
refer to things "going home"  to the end viewer.  TV's have a lot less 
resolution than is the NTSC spec. The concept of the "title safe" area 
is tied to the error factors in TV manufacture. Not only are pictures 
cropped, but often skewed left or right. "Title Safety" intends to make 
sure text or other important information is GUARANTEED to be seen, or, 
that it "goes home."  It is also for this reason software stabilizers 
can work to smooth out a shot. However, large errors in framing due to 
less than perfect camera operation will result in the edges showing, 
and this would ruin a shot. The not quite perfect solution in that 
event is to zoom in on the video, which will quickly begin to soften 
it. Better, however, to have a soft moment than to give away the magic.
