and here's my question:

Why not just use FCE from the beginning?  You're really just making more
work for yourself by capturing with iMovie first.  I'm not even sure if FCE
can work with DV Stream files (which is what iMovie creates), so you may
even have to convert to a standard QuickTime file using the DV codec -- even
MORE of a pain...
