I have an Adaptec 2930 (which I believe uses the same driver as the 2906) in a QuickSilver G4 and it works fine with an old Agfa StudioStar scanner and VueScan software. The scanner must be powered on for it to be seen at boot time. Kind of sounds like maybe a bad card?
