I say skip the whole PowerBook thing if you have a standalone DVD 
player.  You'll get a much better image if you just play from a DVD 
player via S-video -- a PowerBook's gamma curve from the video output 
is different than a set-top DVD player and will result in a washed-out 
image if done this way.

Just get an S-VHS deck and do the dubs with a set-top DVD player via 
S-Video cable.  Much simpler and much better picture quality.
