[MacDV] iMovie Audio

If you've extracted the audio can it be edited/cropped? I noticed if you
crop the clip the sound no longer synchs. Is this normal? What I have is a
speaker who was using a Powerpoint show and what I want to do is drop his
Powerpoint slides in at various times without affecting the audio and then
go back to him speaking. There's about 25 slides I have to do this for.
