I also recommend MOTU. I use the MIDI Express XT which has 8 ins 8 
outs, #8s on front and rear, stripes SMPTE timecode to audiotape (they 
still make that in some places), and is Mac/PC USB 1 compatible. (Would 
work, but slower on USB 2.)
