what are you using as your audio interface?

try turning off "Enable Record On Selected Track" in the prefs for 
now... and manually arm tracks so you don;t get that surprise...

you should be able to turn off global monitoring too...

or lie to cubase sx and tell it that you are using direct monitoring...
