Was it before the Intel Macs? I know it was not possible before he Intel chip for hardware reasons. But to answer you questions, I run version 7.3 Pro flawlessly in Parallels, no limitations. I could upgrade it to 9, but what I have works fine. Identical to my XP box as far as I can tell after 3 months. Here's where Pogue said it: http://pogue.blogs.nytimes.com/ 2006/06/23/23pogues-posts/ I'm glad that you and others have said that you're successfully running DNS via Parallels. If I can get it running on mine, I can give my Dell to a disabled friend. I hate PCs and I hardly used it at all. I just had it around in case things got so bad that I *had* to run DNS. My situation is a little bit different. I immediately noticed, when I started using voice recognition software for "creative writing", that I found a great block not from speaking, but from visually looking at the screen as the words appeared. As I watched the the words appear on the screen - often with recognition errors - then the natural instinct was to start focusing on fixing the errors etc. - and all the sudden I realized that I lost the flow of my " creative writing ". The simple solution for me: as I was speaking my " creative writing " - I simply either closed my eyes - or made sure that my eyes were not focused on the screen. Then, when I had completed my thoughts, I would go back later and edit the printed words. As far as speaking itself: you might try reorientation exercises - where you might " practice " writing through speech recognition - by writing stuff for exercise only purposes - stuff you really don't care too much about... Just for practice... In a case like this: what about a hybrid approach? Sometimes I will speak part of the text - and also keep my hands on the keyboard for things like - 'period' and 'comma' and new paragraph etc... -- Thanks - RevDave CoolCat@hosting4days.com [db-lists] From coolcat at hosting4days.com Thu Mar 15 08:18:22 2007 From: coolcat at hosting4days.com (revDAVE) Date: Thu Apr 5 21:59:53 2007 Subject: [MV] Voice Recognition Issues In-Reply-To: Message-ID: On 2/21/2007 7:07 PM, "David K. Something grabs the > microphone away. here is what I have to do consistently: - Speak into the SpeakPad application - occasionally save the file - when it comes back - speech is turned off - pressing F8 will not reactivate the voice module. - The trick I have found is I keep a blank tex-edit ( other applications may work also) document open the whole time. So, after saving - I press F8 - then I click on the open tex-edit document - possibly say some gibberish - then I return to SpeakPad and it is working again. This process of course is cumbersome (hey - why don't I just go get iListen?) - but it does work 95 percent of the time. - Sometimes, I wish to stop the voice Center - so I will open the activity Monitor application - and manually quit the voice Center process. -- Thanks - RevDave CoolCat@hosting4days.com [db-lists] From coolcat at hosting4days.com Wed Mar 21 19:12:27 2007 From: coolcat at hosting4days.com (revDAVE) Date: Fri Apr 6 01:40:00 2007 Subject: [MV] ViaVoice and 10.4.9?
