You might want to try connecting the MBP to the AEBS by Ethernet
while you set it up. Sometimes that helps.

Problem: I am using a newly purchased AirPort Extreme Base Station-USA
(MB053LL/A) together with a MacBookPro 4,1, 4 GB memory, running OSX
10.5.3 and a freshly downloaded version of AirPort Utility (v. 5.3.2
last modified 6.28.08). AirPort Utility recognizes the base station
(placed next to the computer) but then never stops "reading airport
extreme configuration", at least not for 15 minutes or longer. This
occurs through several resets of the base station with or without
unplugging and replugging the power cord, and through reinstallation
of MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.3. Any suggestions? Should it just be allowed a
longer read time?
