Wireless Access point Recommendation

I've had no experience with anything other than Apple Base Stations which I
find overpriced and lacking in performance, especially with Ti Powerbooks
with their limited range.

Anyone have any experience with 3Com Access Point ? Or any other WiFi access
point hardware that gives more bang for the buck than Apple BaseStation?

Any comments appreciated
