I know that buying a scanner driver for extra money doesn't make sense for
everyone, but don't forget to look at the Silverfast drivers if you are
considering a scanner. Their professional line of drivers run $200, but are
well designed, offer quite a bit of control, and are well worth it if you do
lots of scanning. They have drivers for many of the common scanners that one
would be considering for higher end work.
