>> Question about this... >> I bought applecare when I ordered my tibook 1ghz, the applecare >> shipped, but the machine never did (I later canceled the ordered and >> plan to get a 17" powerbook). I don't see how the applecare could be >> enabled on a machine that never shipped, so I will be able to use this >> applecare on my new machine, correct? Anyone know? I'm going through a similar issue right now. I bought a 1 GHz Tibook, with Applecare policy, got a lemon, exchanged it 8 days later. Apple told me that Applecare policies are NOT (repeat NOT) transferable to another unit, even if it is an identical model and an exchange. You have to cancel the Applecare policy, get credit for your cancellation (or a prorated refund) and then buy a new Applecare policy on the new machine. I called three times, spoke to three different folks at Apple customer care and got the same response. Not transferable and linked to a specific serial number for the machine. To me, it would make sense that I would be able to call them up or fax in the cancellation notice, then have them credit my account over the phone and purchase a new policy right then. However they told me that since I purchased the Applecare policy from the retailer where I bought the Tibook rather than via Apple, that they could not simply credit my account. I ended up having to send a written letter in to cancel the old policy, wait for a refund check, then call to take out a new policy on the new machine - all because of a defective unit exchanged eight days after purchase. Seems rather silly to me, but then I don't run the AppleCare unit... AB
