yes I'd be interested to know if it is using a find | grep or whatever. 
But I do know that it works for me.

Someone else mentioned BBEdit, which is well worth getting if you do a 
lot of find/replace operations, since you can do these across multiple 
files (a folder, a volume). Very useful.
