This might cheer you up a bit although it doesn't solve your crashing.

You don't have to tie yourself into one browser for bookmarks. The Mac has
ILF files that are clippings which do much more and are more flexible.
Rather than write it all here, I invite you [all] to
<http://www.macefficiency.com/> where you can search for ILF. These are my
Mac Efficiency columns which date back to pre-OS X but the ILF part is
pretty much the same. Just add that with Safari you drag the icon in the URL
to make an ILF.
