I get quite a loud squeaky noise when I'm using Safari, and
occasionally with other apps too (although not usually so loud). I'm
guessing that it's a particular region of the hard disk that causes
some electromagnetic whine to be generated (DC-DC converter, or hard
disk voice coil perhaps ?), but maybe your guess about Airport is
closer to the mark. Next time I notice it I'll switch to an Ethernet
connection and see if it persists.
