signal strength discrepancy

why is it that the internet connect menu think that i have a strong 
signal (~ 80%) and MacStumbler & iStumbler both think my signal is only 
30??

which one is right??


is internet connect measuring dB?  or "yes i received a packet."

also i have a D-Link DI-614+....

even if i hold the powerbook ONE FOOT away i still get no more than 50 
on my signal strength in iStumbler or MacStumbler???  How can that be?

does the d-link really have THAT weak of a signal??

it's going back to the store from whence it came if it is honestly THAT 
weak...
