iphoto, 10.2.4 and coolpix 990

well...here's my first problem with my new tibook.
I am running all the updated stuff on my 1 ghz tibook.

I hooked up my coolpix 990 with the latest coolpix firmware update.
The tibook detects  the coolpix camera (seen in the profiler), starts 
up iphoto and tries to access the camera.  But after the spinning 
disk icon appears that's all that stays....
I have to force quit.

Any idea on what might be happening?
