Batteries have a finite number of charge-discharge cycles. (How many? I have heard the figure 400-500 for a LiIon battery-why doesn't someone research that?) When operating time starts to taper off you are approaching that limit and need to buy a new battery and see to it that the old one is properly disposed of. -Joel
