Ram question on Ti 500mhz + other question about list

Hi

I just got a good deal on a Ti PB 500 at a garage
sale which had 2 (256 ram chips) and i upgraded
it to 2 (512 ram chips) runing panther 10.3.4
and it seems to be more flakey with the more ram

can this machine handle this much ram or am i smarter
to just go with 1 (256) + 1 (512)

it just seemed to run better with the less ram then it
does with the more ram as i now see the spining color
wheel which before i never saw?

is there a way to check the ram (i mean the pb boots
up etc.) just seems flakey and takes longer to boot up
then it did with the less ram)

i am kinda new to the whole system X as before this pb
i had pb wallstreet and only used system 9.

another question is i want to make a disc image of my
hard drive and would like to know what system x app
does this as i tryed to use disk copy but it wont let
me save it to my external fw drive.

also, other question is can you get the digest version
of the list or has that gone bye bye because of the
recent problems?
