I worked on the 802.16 standard for a couple years. The marketing people
don't realize the "decibels" required to get a wide-area, wideband signal
through building walls at ground level. As WiMAX is written, this can only
be solved by some combination of:
1. High-power base stations on tall towers.
2. Many base stations.
3. Connecting to an outdoor antenna.
4. Using a lot of power, not good in a battery-powered laptop.
5. Accepting unreliable service within buildings.
My conclusion: You'll be using 802.11 on powerbooks for quite some time.
