Where did you get the memory for your machine?

Newer Mac OS X versions are more sensitive to marginal memory than older
versions (and Mac OS 9).  Most problems can be traced to memory that is
slightly out-of-spec, something that is actually very common to discount
memory distributors.

If you have the hardware test CD, try running that.
