Probably one case where greater pixel density becomes disadvantageous is with text -- text gets nice and sharper. and anti-aliases even better, but appears smaller compared to a less-dense screen. So a 12 pt font on one screen doesn't necessarily mean it'll appear the same visual size as on the other. Forcing an LCD screen into a pixel density that isn't its innate one kicks up anti-aliasing resulting in a fuzzy appearance. Try it in the monitor settings in system preferences...
