Jolly - I followed your suggestion, and I found this file: NUMCompatibilityCheck, which sounds as though it is the exact file that is making the check, and giving the message that I posted. I deleted it from the start-up folder. Kynan - many thanks for the tip on searching in the System. I can now say that there is no file with "Creator" = PNsd (thanks, flipper) anywhere on my Mac.
