firewire recommendation

Anyone with suggestions on a good firewire drive which can boot into 
Panther so I can copy my current drive and
reconfigure my powerbook from scratch?

Also...I have install disks for many of my programs however there are a 
few I don't.
What are the issues for copying an application not "installing" it.
Or is that too general a question as it pertains to programs?
