Is there a way to select which OS I would like to start up with while restarting (without having to go through sys preferences and select the start up disk).

Sam,

If you have your OS's on separate partitions, hold down the option key at startup. Otherwise, i think that if you are set to boot into OS9, hold down the X key at startup to boot into OSX instead.

A little computer haiku:
I can't remember
the last time I restarted
I love OS X
