It does seem a little odd, but then again it's par for the course for developers. Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo didn't just hand out devkits for their new consoles to developers (except to big houses like EA). In fact, the $999 price isn't bad considering what you get, which is a PowerMacintel before anyone else can get one, though granted it's really a rental. So it's not just Apple.
