It is a matter of thermal conductivity (stone is good) and thermal capacity (stone is good). I would put the stone in the freezer before you start, to get as much heat out as possible. If you have a glass-topped desk, then that could also be fine. An aluminium block (best specific conductor of heat) or a copper block is also an option, especially if it has fins for air cooling. Those in banking or equally lucrative professions might try gold ingots or plaques. As I said, conductivity is the property you seek, combined with thermal capacity. What I mean by the latter is that eventually (if you are doing hours of video conversion) then the stone will also get hot, and lose its cooling effect (which is a function of the temperature difference). When I was doing a lot of CPU intensive work, I was using plastic bags with ice cubes in, as a bed for the Powerbook, which kept it nice and cool for a few hours. regards, Trevor
