[Ti] Airport Extreeme - file transfer

I have Airport extreme on my Al-book.  I use it all day everyday for 
wireless internet connection.

But HOW do I use it for wireless file transfer ?

I wanted to transfer a file to a student's (Dell) laptop.

I created a new Network, which he could see and connect to (computer 
to computer).

But WHAT is the next step to actually send a file or connect to his laptop?

has anyone done this, and can explan in one sentence what I am missing?

(since neither of us could figure it out, I sent the file via 
Bluetooth, which was fine).
