you could also try epson.com and umax.com and look in their support  
sections, under drivers and downloads.  look for your model and  
you'll quickly see if they support os x.  even if they don't  
explicitly specify v10.4, the same drivers are likely to work  
(meaning 10.3 or quite possibly 10.2 drivers as well).  also, you  
could check out gimpprint, and vuescan for unsupported scanners.   
although i think vuescan charges for their drivers which nowadays  
cost just below a new scanner...
